Reflection: Nathan

Through my journey in the world of Cats Cradle, I discovered a very interesting theme. The issue that was explored by the author is also very prevalent in the real world.

One of the most important ideas in Cats Cradle is the notion that the Earth, and the human race; will inevitably be destroyed. The story creates an alternate reality in which a scientific discovery threatened to kill all life on Earth. The story mentions that Felix Hoenikker, the father of the atomic bomb, believed that someday, science would create "a terrific bomb that wiped out the whole world." (9) This aspect of the story made me think about the mortality of the world as we know it.

Through the development of nuclear technology, humans have gained the ability to end existence with the touch of a button.

Cats Cradle serves as a warning to humanity. We are on the verge of a world-wide extinction. As a species, we must turn back from our path of destruction. The extent of our own capabilities threaten to kill everything.

In Cats Cradle, the world as we know it was forever reshaped. If humanity continues to ignore the imminent catastrophe of a nuclear Apocalypse, then we will suffer the same fate.

  1. Your interpretation of the story's theme is expressed well. Explain how the story warns its readers in more detail.
